Chaputa! Records is proud to present the long-overdue release of How’d You Feel About Talkin’ to Me?, the sole, lost recording by BOGUE — a Detroit trio whose gritty soul-punk helped define the raw heart of the city’s early 2000s underground scene.

Formed in 1999 in Detroit’s Cass Corridor, Bogue brought together guitarist/singer Dan Maister (ex-PW Long’s Reelfoot), drummer Matt Blake, and later Mike Walker (Gravitar). What followed was a loud, lean, soul-scorching collision of punk, blues, and dirty groove — think The Meters crashing into Mudhoney, with the Laughing HyenasOtis Redding and early Stones all caught in the blast.

Their only recordings were laid down in 2002 at Ghetto Recorders, captured live and fast by Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Dirtbombs). The band had no budget for tape, barely enough time to second-guess a take — just raw power, burned onto reels and passed hand-to-hand on bootleg CDs among those lucky enough to know.

Then… silence.

The post-garage boom fizzled, the industry moved on, and tragedy struck. Dan Maister took his own life in 2005. Matt Blake died of a heart attack in 2008. All that remained was a raw, unreleased session and memories of sweat-drenched live shows that refused to fade.

Now, over 20 years later, How’d You Feel About Talkin’ to Me? finally gets the release it deserves. Lovingly remastered by Jim Diamond, the album retains every ounce of its ferocious beauty. “It’s a young band cooking live in the studio,” says Walker. “Messy, but in a good way.”

This isn’t nostalgia. This is a vital document of a band that should have broken through. A record that howls with soul, grit, and everything that made Detroit’s underground burn bright at the turn of the century.
