The New Salem Witch Hunters are a Garage Rock institution in their native Cleveland, Ohio. Get Hip is proud to present the long-overdue CD reissue of their debut album, originally released in 1986 on Cleveland-based Herb Jackson Records (HJR-4709).

Recorded at the now-defunct Beat Farm Studios, the album retains its freshness after all these years. Like labelmates The Cynics, New Salem Witch Hunters have a clear idea of their sound (deeply rooted in obscure ’60s Garage) and know precisely how to transfer it onto record. Guitarist Tom Fallon and his longtime partner, singer Dave Atkins, have a similar songwriting approach as Cynics’ Kastelic-Kostelich. But while the Cynics have a predominance for a fuzzed-out sound, the Witch Hunters have a more melodic approach, very reminiscent of early Seeds.
